DA'RIGHTARM (28 mm Ork Great Gargant wip)

 Hello there, little orks...!

So, our dear Mek Emilke has decided that, okay, we now have da'boots, to stomp and move and so, but... what about dakka? We really need dakka!!!

Two different teams of gretchin and grot asTeks are now working on the arms of our Great Gargant, each group following their own technical drawings and philosophy...

Let's see what are they doing!!!

THE PLANS OF TEAM "RRR" (DA'RIGHTARM TEAM)

So this arm will have a very big and nasty "gatling-gun", with a square shoulder and a dual-barrelled rotating turret, with periscopes at the end... Easy, right?

Let's start with the Gatling, we need to arrange the six barrels muzzels and reinforce all that section.

Then we just need to add all to a "Pringles" can, it just will fit perfectly into our Gargant!

Obviusly we need this thing to rotate, so a marker will do the job

Inside the can, a plastic tube will be guide for the rotation device...

On the other side, we design an elbow and the inner rotation rod of the arm itself:

And all together looks like this:

This white "spacer" will help us to avoid nasty problems with the turning arm of the Beast...

So now is time for the shoulder, with a square section made with foamboard and a transparent plastic tube that, once, was the blade of a LudoSport fencing lightsaber...

We need to reinforce the interior

Now we just add the "balcony" for the ork observers!

Looks pretty, don't you think so?

So, apart from the balcony, we need to add also a "pulpit" for another ork observer/gunner

And finnally we create a nice dual-barreled turret for the top of the shoulder

As you can see, the little gretchins added even a full set of periscopes to the thing.

And now all the main sections of DA'RIGHTARM are completed!

Let me introduce to you Gluck and Plick, two BadMoon ork orservers assigned to this Great Gargant. They are always fighting each other to find the best target...

Ok, now we need to scratch build a hatch to access to the shoulder, so we "copy" a GW official one, more or less...

And we reach da big moment... riveting time!!! We use different types of rivets to add more 'flavour' to the thing:

The rear access hatch finished and in place:

And our friends on the armoured observation balcony!

And, after 431 rivets, DA'RIGHTARM is ready to be painted...

Next week we will see what the hell is doing the other team with the left arm...

DA'BOOTS (28 mm Ork Great Gargant wip)

 Hello there...!

A Great Gargant is nothing but a big "Stompa", so first thing you need is a good pair of boots to stomp both humies' vehicles and beakies themselves...

Also, you all know that this blog is named "El taller de Emilque" (the workshop of EMILio and enriQUE), because of the workshop of my grandfather, Enrique Navarro I and his good fellow Emilio Delgado, shoemakers in Madrid back in the 50-70's... So making boots is something with deep roots in my family...

What we need? Some junky scrapyard materials, of course, like these:

Nothing fancy, just some cardboard pieces and plastic bottles.

After assembling, this is the result:

We have the general shape, bulky like in a cartoon, but this is OldSchool ScratchBuilding, so let's add some orky details and rivets, lots of rivets...

DA'RIGHT BOOT

Cereals box cardboard, different types of rivets (most of them selfmade with sliced green stuff), cables, etc.

DA'LEFT BOOT

In this case I have added a little 'joke', in the form of the logo of "Orcidas", sponsor of many BloodBowl teams and also of the Spanish National Football Team, proud 2026 World Cup winners...

Together they look manacing enough to stomp a Land Speeder, right?

The sole is full of roman-caligae style studs, just in case...

And the last thing we ask our laborer gretchins to add is some details to the ankles and attachment to the lower body, and we are ready to stomp!... I mean, to walk!

We have now a good base for our project, let's keep scratchbuilding next week!!!

Hello there!!!

It's been a long time out of business, but now I am back... And with a lot of changes! First of all, this blog will be in english (or something like that) starting with this post. This is because I do not want anymore that anybody miss my work because he/she can not understand spanish...

I have started a new project, a titanic one (well, a "gargantuan" one will me more accurate), and I want to share it here and maybe at instagram (if I am able to recover my old account or in a new one).

Surely you remenber the oldschool-scratchbuilt ork Great Gargant I made for my good friend Suber. Well, it was done for the glory of Mork, and now Gork demands his own gigantic robot!!!

So I am working hard to scratch build a full 28mm Great Gargant, inspired on this oldschool iconic image:

'El Poste de Trabajo de Mekaburgo' (final)

 Pues habíamos dejado este proyecto a medias, más que nada porque ha entrado en el taller un encargo de un proyecto faraónico (bueno, más bien macedónico), y me ha tenido realmente ocupado estas semanas...

Pero una vez terminado (ya lo veréis pronto en el blog y en el foro), he podido completar la entrada del concurso con el tan deseado por mí desde hace mucho, Poste de Trabajo de Mekaburgo...

Teníamos los materiales para la pieza de escenografía, pero no habíamos montado nada. Así que empezamos preparando un soporte para el poste. Lo hacemos con un trozo de tubo de plástico cortado a medida y pegado con pegamento fundido: (001)

Una vez seco, presentamos el tubo de cartón en su sitio, y colocamos a dos simpáticos orkos para hacernos mejor idea de la composición (sencillez y minimalismo al poder): (002)

Para darle el aspecto metálico, en vez de pintar, lo vamos a recubrir por completo con papel de aluminio, que tiene un brillo natural especial y que además es todo un ejercicio de colmo y paradoja, pues el tubo que hemos usado es precisamente del que viene con el papel albal (cuando se acaba): (003)

Para no dejar un acabado uniforme, y darle un aire más "orkoide", cortamos unas cuantas secciones de cartón fino y las recubrimos con papel de aluminio, para simular paneles en relieve: (004)

Para la peana, un poco de textura arenosa le vendrá bien. Como no tengo a mano arena fina especializada, usamos una más antigua recogida en mi barrio hace mil años, y la esparcimos sobre una generosa capa de cola blanca diluida: (005)

Prefiero que la arena quede bien empapada, para que agarre bien, aunque luego haga menos relieve. Lo único malo es que con tanto líquido la base de MDF se va a combar sí o sí, pero esperemos que no demasiado: (006)

En la cúspide hacemos una 'tapa' con cartón cortado a la medida, y comprobamos que puede colarse un orko en su peana redonda de 25 mm sin problema (por si en alguna ocasión necesitamos que un orko se suba, que con los pieles verdes nunca se sabe): (007)

Una vez pegado todo, le vamos a dar algo más de "textura", y que tenga pinta de ser algo genuinamente orko, así que eso solo puede significar una cosa: remaches. Muchos remaches. Remaches a cascoporro, como si los fuesen a prohibir. Los hacemos como siempre, con cabezas de alfiler, previo mini taladro y gotita de cola blanca para asegurar: (008)

Con toda la paciencia del mundo (que no tengo), vamos colocando fila tras fila de remaches, siguiendo los caóticos e incomprendidos patrones que sólo los Mekánikos orkos alcanzan a comprender y valorar. Estoy seguro de que más de un gretchin o dos de los que están leyendo esta entrada se preguntarán: "¿Pero cuántos remaches lleva esa cosa plateada? ¿Los habrá contado alguien? ¿Emilke el Mekániko chalado tal vez?" Y la respuesta es, ¡Pues claro! ¿Qué os habíais pensado? Éste es un taller serio, todo lo serio que puede ser un taller orko, claro. Así que los he contado y recontado y hay exactamente 212 remaches en el poste, colocados uno a uno, con estas manitas que me han dado Gorko y Morko: (009)

Vamos con la textura del suelo, que según nos cuenta el manual de gorkamorka en la descripción del lugar, es una "zona pisoteada". No me había acordado de esto cuando pegué la arena, así que algo tendremos que apañar. Primero nos hacemos con unas botas y unos pies desnudos de orko, que sirvan de "plantilla" para dejar las huellas de pisadas. Un par de golpes de cuchilla en las piernas de un viejo orco de plástico de Blood-Bowl nos hacen el apaño: (010)

Con un poco de pasta de modelar, hacemos algunas zonas de la peana algo más planas y blandas, para poder dejar la impronta: (011)

Y ahora solo nos queda ir presionando poco a poco sobre la masilla blanda aún hasta conseguir el efecto deseado: (012)

Vamos a pintar (que este proyecto es sencillo a más no poder). Una primera capa base que la hacemos con color beige de Vallejo, aplicado con pincel: (013)

Una segunda capa con tinta sepia de Games Workshop, para hacer el sombreado: (014)

Un primer pincel seco con el color de base, para unificar: (015)

Y para rematar otra capa de pincel seco, esta vez con arena clara de Vallejo: (016)

Una capa de barniz mate para proteger el trabajo de pintura de las inclemencias del tiempo (y de las suelas de las botas de los orkos) y ¡ya tenemos el poste terminado!: (017)

Como veis, es una de las piezas de escenografía más cutres que se han presentado nunca a ningún concurso: (018)

Mola porque puedes subir a tu orko favorito encima para que contemple el panorama... Al final he optado por no añadir carteles a la base porque tampoco quería recargar lo que no es más que un palo de metal clavado en la arena (la gracia de todo esto, ¿no os parece?): (019)

Puede que algún alma calenturienta se pregunte aún cómo de alto es este engendro; Pues bien, consultando las tablas de la "Escala Suber-McBride de tamaños de piezas de escenografía friki", el poste del trabajo de Mekaburgo mide 1'09 veces lo que mide un Pizoteador de los Mekánikos, o lo que es lo mismo, 2'05 veces lo que mide un bote pequeño de cola blanca Ceys. Todo mucho más claro ahora, ¿verdad?: (020)

Próximamente más novedades frikiles en el Taller de Emilque...

Nota 1: Efectivamente, esta entrada NO va a ganar el concurso, pero ni era el objetivo ni vamos a dejar de reirnos un rato por ello.

Nota 2: Efectivamente, Ikea vende un palo de aluminio para sujetar de pie los rollos de papel de cocina que es exactamente igual que este poste del trabajo, pero más bonito. Pero no tiene remaches. Ni es orko, sino sueco. Y no me di cuenta a tiempo.
